High-Palatability Nutrition for Recovery, Weight Support & Special Life Stages

Some rabbits and guinea pigs need more nutritional support than others—especially during recovery periods, low body weight, growth, pregnancy, lactation or times when their overall condition is reduced.

Our Energy & Vitality Hay Powder is a finely ground, high-palatability supplementary food developed for rabbits, guinea pigs and other small herbivores that need additional energy and nutrition.

The formula combines a Timothy Hay or Alfalfa Hay base with burdock root, flaxseed, strawberry, black sesame, banana and perilla.

Its naturally rich aroma and carefully selected ingredients make it one of our more palatable formulas, which can be especially useful when appetite is reduced or when encouraging food intake is important.

The powder is ground to a very fine texture and mixes smoothly with water, making it easy to prepare as a soft hay puree or for syringe feeding when assisted feeding is appropriate.

Two hay-base options are available:

Timothy Hay Version

Designed for adult and senior rabbits or guinea pigs that need additional calories and nutritional support while maintaining a Timothy hay-based formula.

FAQ

What is Energy & Vitality Hay Powder?

Energy & Vitality Hay Powder is a high-palatability supplementary food for rabbits and guinea pigs that need additional energy and nutrition.

It is particularly suitable for underweight small herbivores, growing young rabbits, pregnant or lactating rabbits, recovery periods and other times when nutritional needs may be higher than usual.

Is this hay powder suitable for an underweight rabbit?

Yes. This formula was developed for rabbits and guinea pigs that may benefit from additional calories and nutritional support.

The Timothy version contains approximately 6–8% crude fat, while the richer Alfalfa version contains approximately 7–8.5% crude fat and 12–14% crude protein.

Unexplained or ongoing weight loss should always be evaluated by a rabbit- or exotic-animal veterinarian to determine the underlying cause.

Can I use Energy & Vitality Hay Powder after surgery?

It can be used as part of a post-surgery nutritional support plan when the rabbit or guinea pig is able to receive oral feeding.

Its high palatability and finely ground texture make it particularly convenient for animals that need soft food or assisted feeding during recovery.

Always follow veterinary instructions after surgery, especially if appetite remains poor or gastrointestinal obstruction is a concern.

Is this suitable for syringe feeding?

Yes. The powder is finely ground and mixes smoothly with water, making it easy to prepare for syringe feeding without easily clogging the syringe.

The amount of water can be adjusted depending on the desired consistency.

Assisted feeding should only be performed when it is appropriate for the animal's condition.

Which version should I choose: Timothy Hay or Alfalfa Hay?

The Timothy Hay version is generally the more suitable choice for adult and senior rabbits or guinea pigs that need additional nutritional support.

The Alfalfa Hay version provides higher protein, fat and calcium and is particularly useful for growing young rabbits, pregnancy, lactation, low body weight or periods of increased nutritional demand.

Is the Alfalfa version suitable for young rabbits?

Yes. The Alfalfa Hay version provides a richer nutritional profile, including approximately 12–14% crude protein and 0.8–1.0% calcium, making it especially suitable for growing young rabbits with higher nutritional requirements.

Can pregnant or lactating rabbits eat this formula?

Yes. The Alfalfa Hay version is particularly suitable during pregnancy and lactation when nutritional demands are increased.

It should still be used as part of an appropriately balanced overall diet with unlimited hay and fresh water.

Can guinea pigs eat Energy & Vitality Hay Powder?

Yes. Both versions can be used as supplementary foods for guinea pigs depending on age and nutritional needs.

This product does not replace the guinea pig's need for an appropriate dietary source of vitamin C.

Why is this formula more palatable?

The formula combines hay with naturally aromatic ingredients including strawberry, banana, flaxseed, black sesame and perilla.

This creates a richer natural aroma than our lighter daily formulas, making it particularly useful for small herbivores with reduced interest in food or those needing encouragement to eat.

Can this formula help my rabbit gain weight?

It is designed to provide additional calories and nutrition for rabbits and guinea pigs that need healthy weight support.

The Alfalfa version provides the richer nutritional profile, while the Timothy version is suitable when additional energy is needed without switching to an alfalfa-based diet.

Weight gain should be gradual, and persistent low body weight or weight loss should be investigated by a veterinarian.

Can I feed Energy & Vitality Hay Powder every day?

Yes, when the formula is appropriate for the animal's age, condition and nutritional needs.

For animals using it temporarily during recovery or weight support, the amount can be adjusted as their condition and body weight improve.

Does this hay powder replace long-strand hay?

No. Long-strand hay should remain an important part of the daily diet whenever the rabbit or guinea pig is able to eat it.

Hay powder provides concentrated nutritional support and is convenient for soft feeding or syringe feeding, but it does not provide the same prolonged chewing activity as long-strand hay.
